CatchOn TV on a Firestick

A Firestick is the cheapest way to put a player on any TV with an HDMI port. It needs one permission before anything else: your say-so to install an app that is not in Amazon's store. That takes a minute and is done once.

Get Downloader

  1. 1.On the Fire TV home screen, open Find, then Search.
  2. 2.Type Downloader and pick it from the results.
  3. 3.Select the orange Downloader icon and press Get.

Allow Downloader to install apps

The switch sits in a different place depending on how old the stick is.

  1. 1.Recent sticks: Settings, My Fire TV, About. Highlight the Fire TV Stick line and press the select button seven times. Go back one screen, open Developer Options and turn on Install unknown apps for Downloader.
  2. 2.On an older stick the path is shorter: Settings, My Fire TV, Developer Options, and turn on Apps from Unknown Sources.
Note.No Developer Options in the menu means the stick has not been told you are a developer yet: press select seven times on the Fire TV Stick line first.

Install a player and sign in

In Downloader, type the app address from your WhatsApp message and let it install. Any of these works:

Open the player, choose the Xtream Codes login, and type in the username, password and server address from your message. The channels and the guide fill in by themselves.

Would you rather install from a proper app store? Android boxes and Chromecast get the same players from the Play Store, and a Samsung or LG TV or a Roku runs a player with nothing plugged in. Whichever you choose, check the channel list first.
